WordPress Learning Guide – How to Install WordPress

This article, is the first of a WordPress tutorial series, explaining from scratch how to build your own blog. In this one, I will share with you the concept of what is WordPress and how to install WordPress.

How to install WordPress using Softaculous

Softaculous is a popular installation script. Auto-install scripts Softaculous – allows you to bypass problems and install CMS on hosting in just a couple of mouse clicks.
The Softaculous scripts installer can be used to install scripts and programs without downloading files to your account, creating databases for scripts and go through complex installation procedures.
Installation process is done via the cPanel control panel -> Softaculous
The process of installing scripts with Softaculous is extremely simple and intuitive even for beginners.

So, log into the cPanel with your account and look for the Softaculous icon or the WordPress installer icon. They located in the “Auto Installers” section.

Clicking on one of these icons, you will run the auto-installer Softaculous. Firstly you will see the WordPress review section, you have to click on the “Install” tab to continue.

Now you need to fill in the information about your site. Softaculous will automatically suggest the default settings, but you can configure them.

On the top of the page, select the domain you want to use for WordPress. Select the protocol http: // or http: // www and if your site uses SSL and HTTPS, then you can choose the protocol https: // or https: // www. Then select the directory to install WordPress. By default, it will be installed on, but if you want to set the root of domain, leave the In Directory field empty:

In next section, you firstly need to enter the title and description of your WordPress site. Do not worry, after installation you can easily change them in the WordPress admin section.

Then you have to select an admin username, password, and email. Softaculous will automatically fill in the username and password fields. It will generate a name and a strong password. If you want, you can change them. However, we strongly recommend that you always use a strong password.
Make sure you enter the correct email address as WordPress will send notifications and a link to password recovery on it.

Other settings are optional. Finally, when you’re finished, click Install.

Softaculous will start the installation using the settings you provided. The download scale will appear. The installation will take several minutes; do not close the window until the scale reaches 100%, otherwise, you can prevent the installation of WordPress. You will see a message about the successful installation when it is completed. There you can also see a link to your site and a link to your WordPress admin section.

How to install WordPress using QuickInstall

QuickInstall is another popular auto-installer used by a plenty hosting companies. In the current tutorial, for example, we will use the HostGator control panel, but installation on another hosting using QuickInstall will not be that much different.

At first, you need to login into the cPanel in your hosting account and find the “Software and Services” section, and then click on the QuickInstall icon.

This way you will be on the page with 1-Click installers. QuickInstall provides installation of most popular applications, including WordPress. Select WordPress to start the installation.

Once opened the WordPress installer, you will see a review of the software. Click on the “Install WordPress” button to continue.

You will be brought to your WordPress settings.

Select the domain name. If you want to install WordPress into a sub-category, for example,, you need to enter the blog in the field of the installation channel. Leave it empty if you want to install WordPress in the root directory, for example,

Type the title of your site, it can be anything and you can always change it later. Next, enter the username, password, and email for the admin account. You also need to enter admin’s first and last name.

Once you complete with the settings, click the “Install WordPress” button to start the installation. QuickInstall will do everything for you. You will see a download scale, and then a message about the successful installation.

Click on the drop-down icon to see the button to get detailed info. Once clicked a menu will pop up showing the username, password, and a link to the admin section of your new WordPress site.


How to install WordPress using Fantastico


Fantastico is a widespread auto-installation script used by some hosting providers. It is similar to all other installers in the list and offers an easy and quick way to install WordPress.

Go to the admin section in cPanel. Find the section “Software and services”, and in it -> the icon Fantastico.

Click on the Fantastico icon to start the script. In this lesson, we will show the installation process for Fantastico version F3. If Fantastico on your hosting looks different, do not worry as the basic installation steps are the same, and you should easily figure it out.

In the main Fantastico window on the left, you will see a list of web applications. You need to click on “Blogs”, where you will find WordPress in the list of other applications. By clicking on WordPress, you will see an overview of the application and the installation button.

Just click on the “Click here to install WordPress” button to continue.

Auto-installer Fantastico for WordPress will ask you to fill in the settings. Firstly you have to select the domain on which you want to install WordPress.

If you want to install WordPress in a sub-directory, you can enter the name of the sub-directory in the box below. Otherwise, make sure that the field is left blank.

In the “Administrator Details” section, type information about the admin account. Enter your username, password, and email for your WordPress admin account.

Click the “Submit” button to continue.

Now Fantastico will install WordPress. You can observe the installation process. As soon as it is finished, you will see a message about the successful completion.


How to install WordPress using FTP


The manual installation of WordPress is also known as a 5-minute installation. However, the manual installation has several additional steps, and for you will need an FTP client.

First of all you need to download the latest version of WordPress. Unzip the files and use FTP to upload files to your web hosting directory.

If you want to install WordPress to the root domain name (, then you need to upload WordPress files to the root directory of your site. Usually this directory is called /public_html / , but if you want to install WordPress in a subfolder (, then upload them to the /public_html /blog / folder.

When you have finished downloading WordPress, go to your host management panel to create a database. Find the icon corresponding to the “MySQL Databases” and create new database. Enter the name of your database, and click “Create Database”.

This new user still does not have permission to the database that you just created. So add the user to the database and give him permission to perform any operations. On the same MySQL Databases page, go down to the “Add User to a Database” section. Select the database user that you created from the drop-down menu, select the database, and click the “Add” button.

Once your MySQL database and user are ready, then it’s time to start the WordPress installation. Go to the URL address where you downloaded WordPress. If it is on the main domain, then enter your domain in the browser window, for example, or

You will see the language selection page. You can also use English and change the language later.

Click the “Continue” button. ou will see the installation directions. WordPress will need your database name, password and MySQL information. Click the “Let’s go” button to proceed. Now WordPress will show you the form. Here you need to type the name of the database that you created:

Fill in and click “Submit”. WordPress connects to your database and displays a message about the successful connection. Click “Run the Install” to continue.

WordPress will create tables for your database and will send you to the next step of the installation.

Now you need to enter the information required to set up your blog: name, username, password and admin email. If you do not want your site to be accessible for search engines, then select the “search engine visibility”. This setting can be changed later.

Click on the “Install WordPress” button to continue. WordPress will make the necessary settings and complete the installation.

You will see a message about the successful completion, where you will see your username. You can click on the “Log in” button to get to your WordPress site.


How to Install WordPress on Your Computer using Microsoft WebMatrix


Microsoft WebMatrix is a program from Microsoft that allows you to install and use WordPress locally.

Let’s begin our process of getting a local WordPress install with Microsoft WebMatrix., First you need to download and install WebMatrix. You can download it for free at Microsoft WebMatrix.

Once the program is installed, go to “Applications”, choose WordPress and click “Add”, then “Install”.
In the appeared window choose “I Accept”:

The installation will start:

In Configure window fill in the fields with your own info or you can leave it with default predefined settings, then click “Continue”.

The installer will automatically set the MySQL DB and other settings as well, thus in the end of installation you just have to copy your user’s details:

After that it will be redirected to the directory where WordPress is installed:

and localhost will be opened in the browser for further 5-minutes installation:

Provide information required to set up your blog: name, username, password and admin email, and decide where to use or not the “search engine visibility”. That’s it, now you can start working on your site.
